The blaze occurred in Orange County around 10:45 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 39 Kenny Court in Newburgh.

According to Mike Neppl, Chief of Staff of Newburgh, firefighters encountered heavy flames billowing from the building's second story.

A rapid response saw a second alarm issued as teams searched for reported individuals trapped inside. One person managed a harrowing escape by jumping from a second-floor window to safety.

By 11:10 p.m., the fire was under control, but the battle continued as firefighters checked for any spread to the attic and nearby structures.

In the process, three firefighters were treated on-site for injuries, and one was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh for second-degree burns but was later released.

The incident claimed the lives of two pets and displaced three residents, with the Red Cross stepping in to provide necessary aid.

The City of Newburgh Fire Investigation Team is investigating the cause of the fire, though preliminary findings suggest it was not suspicious.

Mutual aid was received from several nearby fire departments.
